Kinzinger Applauds Passage of Home Heating Relief Bill

Press Release

Date: March 4, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) today released the following statement after the House passed by voice vote H.R. 4076, the Home Heating Emergency Assistance Transportation (HHEAT) Act, a bill to provide relief to states experiencing a shortage in propane and home heating fuels.

"It's been a long, cold winter, and because of that, we're seeing a shortage in the fuels that Illinois families rely on to heat their homes," said Kinzinger. "This bill helps relieve those shortages by guaranteeing and extending the emergency measures currently being undertaken and ensures Illinois families will continue to have the heat they need."

Recently, the U.S. Department of Transportation issued emergency declarations to allow commercial truck operators to drive for longer hours to speed up propane deliveries to affected states, but those declarations only last for 30 days at a time. H.R. 4076 guarantees the extension of these deliveries until May 31, 2014.

In February, Rep. Kinzinger joined with over 70 House members to send a letter to President Obama calling on his Administration to take immediate action to help relieve the propane shortage affecting the Midwest. The text of that letter can be found here.
